ENVI Mahidol Showcases Innovation Transforming Lac Washing Water into Liquid Organic Fertilizer, Offering Cost-Saving Solutions for Farmers

On 29 April 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Jamaradusit, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, gave an interview on the “Yim Rub Wan Mai” program broadcast on NBT 2HD. The discussion highlighted an innovative approach to transforming “lac washing water,” a by-product from the production process, into “liquid organic fertilizer,” which helps reduce costs and expand opportunities for Thai farmers amid rising fertilizer prices.

Research findings indicate that lac washing water contains no toxic substances or heavy metal contaminants. It is rich in nitrogen and ammonia and has a neutral pH level, making it suitable for agricultural use. Experimental results with vegetable crops demonstrated improved plant growth and yields increasing by up to 2–3 times.

This innovation also contributes to addressing industrial wastewater issues under the Zero Waste concept and aligns with the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, which emphasizes efficient and sustainable resource utilization.

The project is currently open to farmers in Lampang Province, particularly in Sop Prap District and nearby areas, to participate in trials using lac washing water as liquid organic fertilizer. Interested participants may register via LINE through the Social Engagement Division, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University (LINE ID: @328fmotg).
