The Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, organized The 5th Professor Emeritus Dr Pongpit Piyapong Commemorative Speech Day, 2018, in which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rattanawat Chaiyarat, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thamarat Phutthai, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuanchan Singkran and Asst. Prof. Dr. Piyakarn Teartisup as the moderator, conducted a special discussion on “Biodiversity Crisis and Threats to Natural Resources and Environment in Thailand” with the purpose of passing the knowledge for the conservation of our natural resources onto faculty members, staff, students and interested people and on the occasion of World Water Day, held annually on 22 March, of which this year’s theme, set by The United Nations, is “Nature for Water”. With the awareness of the importance of this special occasion as well as to commemorate Professor Emeritus Dr Pongpit Piyapong’s contributions and benevolence, the faculty subsequently held the commemorative speech day, which was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kampanad Bhaktikul, Dean and included a presentation ceremony of Emeritus Dr Pongpit Piyapong Educational Support Fund for the faculty’s students by Dr. Metta Piyapong, M.D. The event was held at Professor Emeritus Pongpit Piyapong Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Budhanatala Environmental Building.

Associate Professor Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Deputy Dean for Research Administration, Academic Services and Information Technology of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, presided over the closing ceremony of the MU-NU Spring Training Program 2018, which was organized from 19 February to 9 March 2018, participated by 6 students from Department of Environmental Science, Graduate School of Fisheries and Environmental Science, Nagasaki University, Japan and 10 faculty's B.Sc. students, under the supervision of Dr. Chulaporn Kamnerdpetch, the faculty member and training program director together with Associate Professor Dr. Hideki NAKAYAMA from Nagasaki University.

On 8 Feb 18 Lect. Dr. Noppol Arunrat was granted the “JSPS-NRCT RONPAKU Medal Award” and made a thesis research presentation in the seminar on the topic "EEC and Sustainable Development", organized by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Alumni Association of Thailand (JAAT), Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Bangkok office (JSPS) and National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) at Arnoma Hotel

On 17 Jan 18, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kampanad Bhaktikul, Dean, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rattanawat Chaiyarat, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, Lect. Dr. Sukanya Sereenonchai and Lect. Dr. Noppol Arunrat, faculty members, welcomed a visit from Professor Shen Yu, Senior Scientist and Executive Director of Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. The visit, which was primarily coordinated by Dr. Monthip Sriratana, Director of Climate Change Research Strategies Center, National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), included the discussion of developing a collaborative research proposal on the topic “Environment Based Economics Planning at a Watershed Scale” and preliminary details concerning the possibility of establishing academic collaborations between the two organizations in the future. This visit and discussion was held at Meeting Room 1203, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University.

27 Dec 2017 at 10 pm, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Deputy Dean for Research Administration, Academic Services and Information Technology, together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Thammarat Putthai, EV Program Director and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sansanee Choowaew, Advisor to the Dean, welcomed Assoc. Prof. Shimpei Iwasaki, Department of Environmental Science, International College of Arts and Sciences, Fukuoka Women's University, Japan, on the occasion of visiting the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies and discussing preliminary details concerning the possibility of establishing collaborations in academic activities, research and student exchange programs between the two organizations in the future. This visit and discussion was held at Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nart Tuntawiroon History Room.

On 19 Dec, at 1.30 pm, Associate Professor Dr. Kampanad Bhaktikul, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, participated in the signing ceremony of Agreement on Cooperation and Student Exchange Agreement between Mahidol University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, at Office of President.

On 3 October 2017, 09.00 am, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kampanad Bhaktikul, Dean, presided over a special lecture on the topic " Strategic Planning for River Basin Organizations" given by Mr. Jan T. L. Yap, Advisor to the Dean of Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies and Chairman of the Steering Committee, AguaJaring, the Asian Network on Sustainable Water Management, at Nart Tuntawiroon Meeting Room (1103), Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University.

On 18 October 2017, Associate Professor Dr. Kampanad Bhaktikul, Dean, together with the faculty’s executives and lectures, welcomed a visit of executive delegates, consisting of Mr. Kim Jongseuk, Dean Office of Business Support, Mr. Son Ho Seop, Head of office of Business Support Team and Mr. Park Sung Geun, Head of office of Center for Korean Language and Culture, and discussed the preliminary details concerning the possibility of establishing a regional center for Korean Language and Culture at the faculty as well as collaborating on other academic activities related to Environment and Resource Studies at Meeting Room 1203, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University.

On 13 November 2017, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kampanad Bhaktikul, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, gave a special lecture on the topic entitled “Water Management in Southeast Asia While Coping with Climate Change” and participated in a study visit at Daecheong Multi-Purpose Dam with Mr. Ko Yeong Kong, Mr. Kim Kuk Jin, Mr. Park Dong Hak and Mr. Park Sang Kwon, Officers of K-Water in Daejeon, Republic of Korea, as part of the training program on “Water Resources Development and Management”, organized by Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-Water) after receiving a welcome and meeting with Mr. Kang Woo Kyu, Director General of K-Water along with Mr. Ko Yeong Kong and Mr. Kim Kuk Jin, Officers of K-Water. The special lecture and study visit was organized with the collaboration of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and Korean International Cooperation Agency

 

On 17 November 2017, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thammarat Putthai, Program Director of Bachelor of Science Program in Environmental Science (International Program), together with Dr. Sukanya Sereenonchai, Lecturer, welcomed a visit from Professor Dawen Yang, Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Professor Zhang Yan, Deputy Director of Graduate Admission Officer, from Tsinghua University China. The visit, which was primarily coordinated by Dr. Monthip Sriratana, Director of Climate Change Research Strategies Center, National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), included the discussion of preliminary details concerning the possibility of establishing academic collaborations and other scholarly activities such as student exchange programs and research cooperation between the two organizations in the future. This visit and discussion was held at Meeting Room 1203, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University.

On 28 November 2017, Associate Professor Dr. Kampanad Bhaktikul, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Stuides, participated in a technical cooperation meeting and knowledge exchange on low carbon research and development, in which Mr. Suthat Pleumpanya, Head of Development section of Royal Project Foundation, delivered a welcoming and opening address, that also included the signing ceremony of the record of discussion on technical cooperation between Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GDAAS), PRC and Royal Project Foundation (RPF), Highland Research and Development Institute (HRDI) and Mahidol University (MU). The meeting was held at the Kantary Hotel, Chiang Mai.
