ENVI Mahidol Welcomes World-Class Experts to Strengthen Academic Collaboration on Biochar for Resource Recovery and Advancing a Low-Carbon Society

On 13 February 2026, the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, led by Associate Professor Dr. Noppol Arunrat together with faculty members and students, warmly welcomed Professor Eakalak Khan from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, United States, and Professor Daniel Tsang from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The distinguished scholars visited the Faculty to deliver special lectures and discuss potential academic collaborations. Professor Dr. Duangrat Intra served as the main coordinator for this event.

The special lectures focused on environmental innovation, with both experts sharing their knowledge on the practical applications of “biochar” in addressing environmental challenges. Topics included resource recovery from wastewater in both terrestrial systems and space missions, as well as the use of biochar for remediation of contaminated soils and supporting decarbonization processes. These approaches are considered key mechanisms in tackling global climate change challenges and advancing sustainable environmental solutions.

In addition, discussions were held on expanding international collaboration to create opportunities for faculty members and students to participate in exchange programs, internships, and joint research initiatives between institutions. The collaboration would also provide support for study visits and research opportunities in advanced overseas laboratories, further enhancing international experience and academic capacity.

This event marks an important starting point for building research networks and aligning academic interests between the Faculty’s scholars and international experts, fostering the development of innovative solutions to address environmental issues at both local and global levels in a sustainable manner.
